Red Square, Food at Jonker Street

Back when I was about 12 years old, my dad brought us for a family trip and we visited Sunway Lagoon and the historical state of Melaka. In Melaka, we visited A Famosa and the Red Square pictured here. Memories were fuzzy as there weren't many pictures. My dad got a non digital camera and he took all the pictures. I remembered many people were there, stalls, and climbing up the stairs to A Famosa and saw some stagnant waters before being hurried by dad to leave soon. I have no idea why I only remembered this useless stuff from the visit. Lol!

I heard many things have changed in Melaka since then. One of my dream is to visit all the 13 states of Malaysia at least once and this time with some proper memories to bring back.

The Grabcar dropped us at the center of the red square. The pictures were taken hastily as we were hungry after our Oceanarium trip.

The Melaka river. A USD100 million was spent to clean the river and revive the buildings around it resulting in this beautiful sight. Glad this project took place as otherwise, we will lose the memories of the once bustling harbours of Melaka and all its history.

We didn't explore the red square but headed straight to Jonker street with Hard Rock cafe right at its entrance.

Being a Penangite, expectation on food is high. Not only looking at the taste of the food but the overall quality, food portion and worth for the bucks. So here we go...

The carrot cake was very good and we even "da pao" one back. Forgot to take a picture as I was too hungry and just nom-nom it down.

The Nyonya Laksa or also known as Lemak Laksa was all right. It is quite difficult to find Lemak Laksa even in Penang so when I found it, I always get excited and had to order it. The outdoor seating is packed and luckily after purchasing the laksa we get to sit in sheltered space behind this stall away from the crowds.

Obviously not full from the small meals, it is time for more snacks. Although it is Korean food but this cheese corndogs were so tempting. There was a long line in this stall.

I got mine! Yummy and worth the bucks!

Food averagely starts from RM5. Some pricing was a shocker for a Penangite. After all, Jonker Street is targeted for the tourists. Though, this shouldn't hinder anyone visiting this place while in Melaka. You may find hidden gems. Those from other countries or states may find it more intriguing as the food offered here is something unique to you.

Tucked in the middle of Jonker Street lies a little park for a breather from the crowd.

Look, this boy from Penang's Ghee Hiang came here too.

Melaka and Penang are somewhat bonded by its history. Both colonized by the British and under the Straits settlement. Unlike other Malaysian states led by royal monarchies, Melaka and Penang are among the 4 states in Malaysia which are represented by Governors. With its rich and similar history, we shared similar taste buds too with the utmost appreciation of the Nyonya Cuisine. Until this day, I never dared to attempt cooking any Nyonya food on my own.
