Day 5 : 9th May

Journey to Switzerland

We were very excited for our next stop. SWITZERLAND. Su & TH were sleeping in the train and I've got eveything in my head. The place we are going to see and the stuff we are going to try.

The hectic Paris views were slowly replaced with fields and trees. I was writing some ideas to put up in my blog and suddenly I saw snow caped mountains from one end to another. Our jaws dropped as the view was so beautiful! Below the mountains were miles and miles of green meadows. Cows and sheeps lazying under the sun. As it's spring, the meadows were blanketed with flowers. There were several meadows covered fully with bright yellow flowers, not even a single green seen. Giving it a pleasant contrast with the greens surrounding it. We passed through Lake Thun. The blue waters meeting the beautiful mountains. Tiny villages lining up the coast was simply mesmerizing!

Here it is! The guide to Interlaken!

If you look closely at the map here, we are staying in Interlaken. Interlaken is the valley blessed with beautiful view of mountains and lakes. It is in between Lake Thun and Lake Brienz. The highest point of this Bernese-Oberland region is Jungfrau (4158m). Jungfrau aka Top of Europe is where you can take Europe's highest climbing train all the way to the top where you can see the mountain peaks. Snow is guaranteed 365 days throughout the year. It doesnt come cheap to take one of these trains but some people say, it is all worth it.

We were greeted with these spectacular views in Interlaken.

Interlaken is really a small village. Friendly and smiley people. Not too crowded with tourists (at this time). I just couldnt help smiling as everyone walks with a smile on their face. It is just so different from Paris. We just loved the nice switch of atmosphere. Just walk around Hoheweg St. and everything is there. Everywhere is reachable by foot and you won't even sweat a bit. The view will somehow make you forget any distance.

I think I mentioned a few times already. Hehe. It is SPRING! Blooming flowers were everywhere. We were so amazed by the tulips!

Call SOS! I am not sure how this cow got stuck there. It must have been from the "Twister" movie.

Unfortunately, it was weekend and the shop here closes early. We can only window shop :(

Some random doggies we met. The owners were very nice to let us take picture with their dogs. The bottom one was a hit with tourists. Obediently, the doggie lets us take picture with him/her. I am a bit disappointed that I didn't take any Bernese Mountain Dog. One of the most attractive dogs I have ever seen. Too bad, these dogs cant survive our hot climates back home. After pondering a bit, I think the Bernese Mountain Dog originated from here as this place is THe Bernese Oberland. I even saw souvenier shops selling stuff toys of these dogs. Hmm...

This pretty little place is our hostel in Interlaken
